Conditions I Commonly Work With

From everyday aches to more complex pain patterns, massage therapy and osteopathy can support your recovery and help restore better function. Below, you’ll find the most common conditions I work with—and how my hands-on approach can help.

Low back pain can develop for many reasons, often a mix of muscle tension, joint restriction, poor posture, or wear and tear over time. It may also be linked to repetitive strain, prolonged sitting, or imbalances in the pelvis and spine. These stressors gradually create stiffness and irritation, making everyday movement feel restricted or uncomfortable.

  • Massage Therapy: techniques such as deep tissue and fascial release help ease tight muscles, improve circulation, and reduce pressure in the lower back.

  • Osteopathy: techniques such as joint mobilizations and muscle energy stretches work to restore movement and relieve stress on the spine and surrounding tissues.

Each treatment is adapted to your unique pattern of tension and restriction, and may include simple home advice or exercises to support lasting results and prevent recurrence.

Neck and shoulder tension often develops from a mix of factors such as stress, poor posture, prolonged desk work, or repetitive arm movements. It can also be linked to breathing patterns, jaw clenching, or compensations from spinal alignment issues. Over time, these stresses lead to muscle tightness, reduced mobility, and sometimes tension-related headaches.

  • Massage Therapy helps release overworked muscles, improve circulation, and ease tightness through focused deep tissue work, trigger point release, and stretching.

  • Osteopathy: techniques such as gentle joint mobilizations, muscle energy, and rib articulation help restore movement, correct postural strain, and relieve tension through the upper spine and shoulder girdle.

Treatment plans are individualized and may include postural or ergonomic guidance to maintain comfort between sessions and prevent recurring strain.

Sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve becomes compressed or irritated, often from a disc herniation, pelvic or spinal alignment issue, muscle tightness in the gluteal or piriformis region, or local inflammation. This irritation can cause sharp or radiating pain in the lower back, buttock, or leg, sometimes accompanied by tingling or numbness.

  • Massage Therapy helps ease tension in surrounding muscles, improve circulation, and reduce pressure along the nerve through focused deep-tissue and stretching techniques.

  • Osteopathy uses gentle joint mobilizations of the lumbar spine and pelvis, muscle energy, and fascial release to restore movement, decompress the nerve, and reduce mechanical strain.

Each plan is tailored to the individual and may include postural or exercise guidance to support recovery, prevent recurrence, and maintain comfortable mobility.

Tension headaches and migraines often stem from several factors such as stress, poor posture, jaw clenching, or muscle tension through the neck and shoulders. They can also be linked to imbalances in the upper cervical spine or restricted blood flow at the base of the skull. Over time, these issues may contribute to pressure, throbbing pain, or sensitivity across the head.

  • Massage Therapy can help ease muscle tension, improve circulation, and calm nervous system sensitivity through focused work around the neck, shoulders, and cranial base.

  • Osteopathy: techniques such as gentle mobilizations of the cervical spine, suboccipital decompression, and fascial release help restore movement, improve fluid flow, and reduce strain on surrounding nerves.

Treatment often includes postural or lifestyle guidance and simple relaxation or mobility strategies to help reduce recurrence and support long-term headache management.

TMJ dysfunction can develop for many reasons including jaw clenching or grinding (bruxism), dental misalignment, stress, or muscle tension through the neck and face. It may also relate to postural changes, past injury, or tightness in the upper cervical spine. Over time, these factors can cause clicking, restricted jaw movement, or discomfort while chewing, and may contribute to headaches or ear-related symptoms.

  • Massage Therapy helps release tight muscles around the jaw, neck, and face through external or intraoral techniques, myofascial work, and trigger-point release to ease pain and restore movement.

  • Osteopathy uses gentle TMJ and cranial mobilizations, muscle energy stretching, and fascial release to reduce joint strain and support balanced jaw alignment.

Treatment plans are often supported with posture and breathing education or relaxation strategies to maintain comfort and prevent recurrence.

Joint pain can develop from many causes including wear and tear (osteoarthritis), inflammation, muscle imbalances, or movement patterns affected by old injuries. It may also result from repetitive strain, instability, or postural alignment issues that lead to stiffness, reduced mobility, or pain with activity.

  • Massage Therapy helps ease muscle tension around the affected joint, improve flexibility, and reduce compensatory strain through deep tissue work, stretching, and fascial release.

  • Osteopathy uses joint mobilizations, muscle energy, and soft tissue balancing to restore alignment, reduce irritation, and promote smooth, natural movement.

Treatment often includes corrective exercises or mobility guidance to strengthen supporting muscles and prevent future flare-ups.

Sports injuries and muscle strains often result from overuse, sudden changes in intensity, limited flexibility, or biomechanical imbalances. Previous injuries, poor recovery habits, or inadequate warm-up can also increase strain on muscles and joints, leading to pain, swelling, and reduced mobility or performance.

  • Massage Therapy helps reduce inflammation, release tight muscles, and support tissue repair through focused deep-tissue work, stretching, and friction techniques.

  • Osteopathy uses joint mobilizations, muscle energy, and soft tissue balancing to restore alignment, improve movement, and encourage natural healing.

Treatment often includes movement re-education, self-care strategies, and gradual return-to-activity planning to promote full recovery and reduce the risk of re-injury.

Poor posture and alignment issues often develop gradually from prolonged sitting, sedentary habits, muscle imbalances, or previous injuries. Over time, these patterns place uneven strain on the spine and joints, leading to chronic tension, stiffness, and an increased risk of pain or injury.

  • Massage Therapy helps release overworked muscles, ease tightness, and support postural balance through deep tissue work, fascial release, and targeted stretching.

  • Osteopathy uses gentle spinal and rib mobilizations, muscle energy, and structural balancing to restore alignment, improve movement, and reduce muscle strain.

Treatment plans often include postural education, ergonomic strategies, and simple home exercises to encourage long-term alignment and prevent recurring compensation patterns.

Carpal tunnel syndrome and repetitive strain injuries such as tennis elbow or golfer’s elbow commonly arise from prolonged computer or tool use, poor wrist and hand posture, or chronic tension through the forearms and neck. Nerve compression at the wrist or along the cervical spine can also contribute to tingling, numbness, or weakness in the hands and arms.

  • Massage Therapy helps release tight forearm and wrist muscles, improve circulation, and reduce nerve pressure through soft tissue, friction, and trigger-point release.

  • Osteopathy applies mobilizations of the wrist, elbow, and cervical spine, along with fascial and neural release, to restore mobility and ease irritation of the nerve.

Treatment plans often include ergonomic adjustments, stretching, and postural guidance to minimize strain during daily activities and support long-term recovery.

Chronic stress can build over time from emotional strain, poor sleep, overwork, or constant daily demands. When the body stays in “fight or flight” mode, it may show up as muscle tension, shallow breathing, headaches, fatigue, or digestive changes, which are all signs of an overactive nervous system.

  • Massage Therapy helps quiet the body’s stress response by easing muscle tension, improving circulation, and promoting deep relaxation through gentle Swedish, fascial, and diaphragmatic techniques.

  • Osteopathy uses cranial, thoracic, and rib mobilizations, along with techniques that support vagus nerve regulation, to restore balance within the autonomic nervous system and encourage whole-body recovery.

Sessions often include simple breathing or self-regulation strategies to help maintain calm between treatments and build resilience against future stress.

Digestive discomfort can arise from many factors, including chronic stress, restricted organ mobility, postural strain, scar tissue, or irritation of the nerves that regulate digestion. These restrictions can contribute to bloating, abdominal tension, constipation, or discomfort after eating, even when medical tests appear normal.

  • Massage Therapy helps relieve abdominal tension, support healthy organ movement, and improve visceral circulation through gentle abdominal and diaphragmatic techniques.

  • Osteopathy applies visceral manipulation, spinal and rib mobilization, and fascial release to restore natural motion of the organs, reduce pressure on the digestive system, and support the nervous system’s role in gut function.

Treatment plans may also include breathing retraining or stress-reduction strategies to help rebalance the connection between the gut and nervous system and promote smoother, more comfortable digestion.

Sleep issues and fatigue can arise from factors such as chronic stress, muscle tension, nervous system imbalance, pain, or poor sleep posture. When the body doesn’t get restorative rest, it can lead to reduced focus, lowered immunity, irritability, and persistent physical exhaustion.

  • Massage Therapy helps calm the body and mind by easing tension, lowering cortisol levels, and supporting the release of serotonin and melatonin. Techniques may include Swedish, cranial, and deep-tissue work to promote relaxation and circulation.

  • Osteopathy uses gentle cranial and upper cervical mobilizations, fascial release, and vagus nerve support to encourage parasympathetic activity and help the body shift more easily into a restful state.

Treatment may also include breathing instruction or lifestyle guidance to improve sleep habits and promote deeper, more restorative rest.
